    Two new health blogs

    July 20th, 2007

    by Tony Chen

Our warm welcome to two new health blogs to the burgeoning healthcare blogosphere. First, check out WSJ's Health Blog, which covers "health and the business of health." Recent posts cover topics ranging from chili dog contaminants to Mass. retail clinics to pharma big wigs. Their two bloggers and other staffers are posting 5 or 6 posts per day.

Also check out My Prevention Blog, brought to you by U.S. Preventive Medicine Execs Chris Fey and Briam Baum. These guys really seem to be thoughtful and sincere about wanting the American people to live healthy and get "more good years." While I'd like to see them post more often (and maybe add some shorter, quick-hit posts), I'm looking forward to what else these blue ocean strategy thinkers will come up with next. Read Chris Fey's first post on how his personal experiences made him passionate about preventive health.

    Tony,

Thanks for this. I am thinking right now how to really organize my reading. I feel so overwhelmed with all that is written and out there. You are indeed providing an interesting filter here and service screening for quality.

I found Chris Fey's posting very passionate. Usually when I read postings in the healthsphere that share stories, they are very I centric. I found Fey's posting personal, passionate and a great perspective in that while "up close and personal, " it was written with purpose and intention to point out the evolution of how health care has changed and what is possible now.

The WSJ blog, I visit periodically. So you reminded me to do just that. I found something very scary.

    Go to this link:

Bush Opposes Expansion of Children's Health Insurance

This proposal was first made to the White House at a meeting with Barbara Bush in the late 80's by a group of intelligent people expert, innovative and with heart, who gathered at the Heller School at Brandeis. Some of you may remember Tuesday's with Morrie,. If memory serves me well, Morrie was part of this group.

It made me think, how many terms of Democrats and Republicans have been in office and still nothing is done. Bush has just repeated his family dysfunction al pattern yet one more time.

I am truly suffering from a syndrome without name a this time. My daughter, who is now an adult, appeared in my life in the middle of a career for an organization in health care and colleagues I felt so spoiled to work with in health care. I did not know at the time I was working in "Disney World" and protected to innovate and challenge complacency.

Once I had my daughter, who was born "failure to thrive," and a father, who was in palliative care at the Beth Israel Hospital in Boston for 7 years, it made me see at a deeper level how any intention and care I had for my family to sustain, share in quality care and keep a semblance of balance in our lives from a economic and quality life perspective was challenged every day we took a breath. There is more on that story in my forthcoming book and the relevance to today and WorkEcology.

Please note, my dad went to his peace (which at that time was a blessing in 1993. My daughter is now a health and self-sustaining wonderful woman, who has made her mother proud.

There is a new article on the home page of Strategy and Business Archive,

Strategy + Business about where health meets wealth.

(Go to right column toward bottom of page, labeled: BREAKTHROUGH THOUGHTS.

The concept is excellent for the preferred employed. Where does this leave the people who can not afford the education or access to health care to insure they have the wealth to obtain the best care?

I must apologize one more time. I find it difficult not to preview a post before it is uploaded. So please forgive my proofing or errors.

    Best,
    Lavinia Weissman

Lavinia, Bush has done blatent, horrible things since in office and I cannot figure out why Americans do not care, pay attention, or even bother to react! In America we have freedom of speech and we have the right to express our opinion; no one does. I've been a target since blogging against Bush three months ago, but I continue. May I share with your readers the fact that if anyone is in need of proper health care and cannot afford the cost of a necessary procedure that is denied you, please contact APHA.org for assistance. In the meantime, I urge ALL Americans who read your story to imagine a beautiful Disneyland ride.......now imagine being forced to ignore it and forget you ever saw it. Imagine instead, being forced to view depressing images that are false, just to scare you...NOW you are viewing what America should be, and what it has become. Sharon Jenson
