About me (updated)

July 13th, 2006

Hey ya'll, thanks for visiting my blog. Since I recently changed jobs, I thought I'd update this "about me" page.

I started Hospital Impact one fateful evening in March 2005 with a big, hairy, audacious dream of hospitals being the best-run organizations on the face of the planet. I work at a prominent midwestern hospital system as the Director of New Business Development. Essentially, I'm responsible for the technology commercialization of our research institute's patent portfolio and for the development of new hospital services, programs, and innovations. In this role, I determine what new services the hospital should offer patients and then I work with the executive team to make them happen. This includes everything from potential acquisitions of other healthcare facilities to partnerships with other organizations to building new services from scratch. So I’m always eager to learn about new business ventures that a world-class hospital could get into. Wanna trade notes, share ideas, blog for hospital impact, have any comments/questions, please email me at tony[at]hospitalimpact[dot]org.

For more on me, visit the first "about me" post from October of 2005.
Wanna join the blogging team here at Hospital Impact?
Check out the series I did on "If Disney Ran Your Hospital."
Also, meet the other bloggers, Andrew (the hospital leader turned consultant) and Nick (the first hospital CEO with a blog).

Hope you enjoy the ride!

Obligatory disclaimer: This blog is completely a personal endeavor, and does not reflect the views of my employer, my boss, etc etc, you know the drill.

Hello - found this site via Medscape: it addresses many of the problems we face currently.
I would like an RSS feed: but alas, if you check the url above, it says the feed does not validate. Don't know if the techie stuff is your end or mine (we have strange IT in NHS UK!); but it would be grand if the site were RSS-enabled...

Many thanks for some good positive thoughts: this will be disseminated to snr management for their edification!
cheers - Zena

Tony, when people make entries, can you ask the authors to provide their name. Recently entries have been made with no reference to author.

I'm interested in how hospitals run.
My recent personal experience is some good - some bad.

I'm compaining through channels and could use some advice on how to proceed. The hospital was a 'brush off'.

Interested?

I was wondering if hospitals have considered offering counseling to families when an adverse event occurs.

Please visit my website www.surgicalfire.org my effort to help make Oprating Rooms around the country more aware of surgical fires, and how deadly they can be.

I love this site, read it daily and recommend to it to all. I work in the senior living industry but feel it is really helpful to understand hospital trends and so much that you discuss can apply to my work as well. Keep uup the great work.

Your site is great and you seem to have a serious amount of support. I am working on a blogg that is going to be dedicated to increasing the awareness of health care issues and the platforms of 2008 presidential candidates: in particular for younger people. I was wondering if you ever endorsed other blogs that were for a good cause or if you had any advice on getting the word out to increase the number of readers? Keep bloggin'

Hi Tony-

I read your blog often and thought you might be interested in this webinar tomorrow that takes a look at how more and more hospitals are rushing to add Wi-Fi to their list of patient services. It is led by Colleen Colmenares, former St. David's CIO, Marc Holland, an analyst with Health Industry Insights and a former hospital CIO, and Kevin McKeand from Wayport. You can find more information here: http://www.bulldogsolutions.net/Wayport/WAY10022007/frmRegistration.aspx?bdls=11909.

Thanks,
Lauren

Hi!
I'm looking for someone who'd like to post blog updates about our medical mission to Honduras. We can provide updates with great pics (a real pro photog who's great!) for about three days while on the ground. See below for more. A speech and hearing expert from our family health center will be there too and she is just amazing - she'll be providing tests and hearing devices - last year we witnessed countless kids and adults hear for the first time, it was amazing....see some more info here: There are links there to the photog's site from last year so you can see how good his pics are. I know this is late notice - we leave this saturday!!

I am not sure how to be a guest contributor to your blog. As you can see the post above as intended to be the contribution. I imagine you can edit the comments through your blog administration panel.

Sorry about the mistake.

I look forward to hearing from and will be happy to send the post as an email attachment if you like.
