    More healthcare blogging aggregators

    November 29th, 2005

    two new ones:
HITSphere, which is focused on healthcare IT
HealthVoices, which has an interesting "Open Medicine" vision about healthcare. See their healthcare blog list here.

    two older ones:
Healthcareblogs stopped refreshing its feeds for a while, but now it is back on track.
MedLogs which categorizes the blogs nicely between physician, nurse, biz, etc.

so, which one is the best?

HealthVoices, MedLogs, and Healthcareblogs all segment the various healthcare blogs well. Nonetheless, I think that niche aggregators like HITsphere are going to pick up steam. Healthcare is simply much too broad to aggregate it all for anyone to make sense of it all. Besides, most people only care about one or two professionals/specialties. I can only read so many M.D. blogs before I feel a little out of place.

Then again, maybe all of these will be leapfrogged by more sophiscated RSS aggregation technology, like a TiVo for webfeeds?

    Comments, Pingbacks:

Speaking on behalf of HealthVoices, I would add that our goal is to build more than a blog aggregator (which is a start), but a full fledged online health community, designed on the principles of Open Medicine.

    Stay tuned for future announcements!

Thanks for noting the new HITSphere.com site; the main purpose was for me to be able to have a specialty (community driven) search engine and a single page where I could get the latest stories. When I'm at my desk I read dozens of feeds on my desktop feed aggregator. However, when I'm on the road or discussing something with clients I like to have everything in one easy to use page so that's the general purpose of the HITSphere.com site.

I totally agree with you that healthcare is too big to have a generic aggregator to suit all purposes. I'm hoping the geeks in healthcare like me find the HITSphere.com useful.

    Safety Tip

Hospital facilities built today do not include asbestos, but many older buildings still have asbestos components in them. Steam pipes, boilers and furnace ducts were often insulated with an asbestos blanket or asbestos paper tape because of their fireproof and insulating properties. Resilient floor tiles were made from vinyl asbestos. Asbestos cement was employed in roofing, shingles and siding materials. The hazard of this carcinogen increases when the fibers become airborne, and untrained contractors can inadvertently increase risks by cutting, tearing, sawing, scraping, or sanding asbestos materials. Elevated asbestos levels can occur in hospitals where old materials are damaged or disturbed. It is best to leave undamaged asbestos material alone if it is not likely to be disturbed. Inhaling asbestos fibers is known to cause mesothelioma and other diseases. Be sure to use an experienced asbestos removal contractor when you need to get rid of old materials that might contain asbestos.
