Patient collections: 7 Fierce strategies for getting paid

    July 22nd, 2010

    by Deb Beaulieu, FiercePracticeManagement

Medical practice revenue isn't just about payer reimbursement anymore. With more uninsured or underinsured patients accessing care, patient responsibilities now account for 20 to 30 percent of a practice's total charges.

To thrive in a still-challenging financial environment, practices must be more aggressive about collecting patient deductibles, coinsurance payments and outstanding balances. FiercePracticeManagement interviewed several revenue cycle experts and practice managers who shared their top advice for collecting money while maintaining positive relations with patients.

Surprisingly, many of their strategies are simple (and effective!). Click here to see their tips

LyfeBank patients (a new Seattle area company), pay their out-of-pocket medical expenses with LyfeVault Visa cards from their employer funded accounts. Let's hope this business model grows quickly, it makes a lot of sense.

You re right there. Paul really covered all the important details of list building. A lot of newbies are not taking list building very seriously, what they don’t know is that list building should really be the number 1 priority online. Thank you.

But I would have to get my foot out of my mouth cause how would I categorize quality of life. They may be in poorer living conditions but they could be happier than I am because of their belief system. So alas I don't know. This is what blogs are for.

Considering all the countries you listed, Their birth rates may be higher but quality of life is much lower. So they must have more offspring for their society or however you want to categorize them to be able to survive in worse living conditions. A survival of the fittest kind of terminology. Yet countries with the highest unbelief rates have fewer birth rates but they live a longer and better quality of lives. But I would have to agree with you on the explanations of the placebo effect and the creation of an idea. There is my 2 cents. Have a nice Day.

Honestly I think #5 was the best point - "Determine each patient's responsibility in advance". How many times have I gone to the Emergency room and left without having any clue on how much I would be charged for that visit. I carry a high deductible insurance so the first time my kid has an ER visit I would love to have an idea of what it cost for a simple procedure up front. I'm sure the checkout desk should know what procedures were performed and can tell you roughly what they expect to bill your insurance. It's usually not rocket science is it?
