As with all congressional apologies -- but especially this one -- concerns about liability for restitution were part of the political calculations a DNA test, in this case because of the long-running debate about whether the descendants of slaves should be compensated. Charles Ogletree, the Harvard law professor who has championed restitution, was consulted on the Senate's resolution and supports it, but he said it is not a substitute for reparations. "That battle will be prolonged," he said. Randall Robinson, author of "The Debt: What America Owes to Blacks," said he sees the Senate's apology as a "confession" that should lead to a next step of reparations.

Comment from: Health News [Visitor] · http://www.medicues.com/
A growing number of health plans are deciding that it doesn’t make sense for them to offer physicians individual web portals to check patient eligibility, medical conditions, benefits, claims status, and other insurance-related data. Instead, they’re using multi-payer portals that simplify the workflow in the physician office by reducing the number of sites that staffers have to check for this information. The only problem is that there is more than one firm operating multi-payer portals. Still, that’s a big improvement over the old multiplicity of portals, and it should drive more physicians to do web transactions with health plans. That should reduce administrative costs, not only for physicians, but also for the insurance companies.

    Safety Tip

Hospital facilities built today do not include asbestos, but many older buildings still have asbestos components in them. Steam pipes, boilers and furnace ducts were often insulated with an asbestos blanket or asbestos paper tape because of their fireproof and insulating properties. Resilient floor tiles were made from vinyl asbestos. Asbestos cement was employed in roofing, shingles and siding materials. The hazard of this carcinogen increases when the fibers become airborne, and untrained contractors can inadvertently increase risks by cutting, tearing, sawing, scraping, or sanding asbestos materials. Elevated asbestos levels can occur in hospitals where old materials are damaged or disturbed. It is best to leave undamaged asbestos material alone if it is not likely to be disturbed. Inhaling asbestos fibers is known to cause mesothelioma and other diseases. Be sure to use an experienced asbestos removal contractor when you need to get rid of old materials that might contain asbestos.
